Regional Health Unit
Challenge
When the World Health Organization declared an H1N1 pandemic, moving the alert level to phase 6, it marked the first global pandemic since the 1968 Hong Kong flu. The local health unit in Peterborough needed tremendous assistance from the community and local business organizations for their H1N1 immunization campaign. This would be the largest mass immunization campaign in Ontario’s history.
Manpower worked together with local business and communities to ensure that the health of local residents was protected. We provided the support required to make the mass immunization campaign a success. Manpower’s charitable reputation and generosity toward the Peterborough community had already been strong, and we played a vital role in working with the many volunteers and health professionals involved.
ResultsNotable results after the six-week campaign were: Total number of clinics held: 144 clinics (82 community, 56 schools, 6 pregnancy) Total number of hours worked: 16,485 Total number of immunizations delivered: 40,000+
